It seems that most people over the age of 30 never use text messaging, and don’t understand why it appeals to the younger crowd. Conversely, it seems that the under 20 age group would be just fine if their phone didn’t even make calls as long as it sent text messages.
And then there’s the group in the middle - The kids who grew up when instant messaging online was still in its infancy stages, but still tend to be fairly tech savvy. Some of them use text messaging almost exclusively while others don’t even know the feature is on there phone.
I’m in the middle group, age 25. I’m a big technology fan so I’ve had phones that have had text messaging capability since 2000. However, I never used the feature until 2006. Most of my friends still used their cells phones for making phone calls.
However, while traveling this spring to visit a friend I needed to tell him which airline I was coming in on so he could pick me up. I had already left for the airport so I couldn’t just email him the information, and it was 5:00am in the morning where he was so I didn’t want to call and wake him. I decided this would be a good opportunity to venture into the world of text messaging. I started looking into my menus to see how to send a text message. Then once I had figured out, I fumbled around trying to type the message, but I got it sent.
I arrived at the airport and he was there like he was supposed to be. He got my message. I didn’t wake him up, so I had achieved my goal.
I’ve started using the text message feature of my phone more frequently to tell friends where we’re meeting to go out or where to show up for sports leagues I’m in. It’s really convenient for sending a message when you don’t really need to spend time with your typical, “Hi, how are you? Blah blah blah. Okay, now I can finally get to what I actually wanted to say.”
I can’t foresee myself ever getting to the point where I only text message people, however, I find myself increasingly using it when I’m short on time or even if I don’t feel like talking on the phone but still need to get a message to that person.

The first cell phone I remembered ever seen was the one that Sack Morris in Save by the Bell used to have. It was big and it looked more like a portable phone than a cell phone, and it was not very common for people to have unless you were a business man. However now a days everybody has a cell phone, and the smaller they are, the better. With the invention of new technology cell phones have improved and now you can even take pictures with your cell phone, and even better, make videos. Also you can navigate the internet, write an email, and even take it to another country and still be able to use it. Furthermore they have the possibility to send messages instead of calling people which makes it more affordable and easier to use. Also information and pictures taken in your cell phone can be transfer into a computer which is great to connect people since these pictures and information can be send or simply be save for a longer time in a computer.

It's become a method for a few thousand cell owners to keep track of each other, but hasn't moved much beyond that.
Verizon and Sprint have developed subscription services that will allow your phone to pinpoint your location, complete with overhead map. It's a mobile driving assistance tool that should enjoy some degree of popularity. The cell phone companies have been reticent to provide general access to the GPS feature in their phones, because it can be a sensitive privacy issue - especially if you're somewhere you're not supposed to be.
More to the point, however, is the fact that the cell operators see the GPS technology as a potential profit center. One way to get driving directions with a GPS cell phone is to subscribe to a GPS navigation service. Nextel offers two: Televigation's TeleNav and Motorola's ViaMoto. Using the GPS and Nextel's network, TeleNav and ViaMoto can send driving directions to a Nextel phone. If you make a wrong turn or miss a street, the service detects that you're off the route and new route is calculated to put you back on track.
Aside from the basic mapping and location support, if you're a Sprint-Nextel customer you can subscribe to a service called Smarter Agent. This GPS supported technology is tied to a real estate database and can provide you with information on home sales in the neighborhood where you and your cell phone happen to be located. It will identify which homes have sold in the neighborhood in the last few years, and for what price.
Verizon has a service called getGOING. You can download applications such as AtlasBook Places. With AtlasBook Places you can get maps and directions and navigate to nearby places. An option is a web-based planning tool. These functions are available on selected Verizon phones.
There's an inherent privacy issue here that is a challenge for the major cell providers. Sprint-Nextel is the only company that has always allowed access to the GPS chips in its handsets. They have a strict privacy agreement with any third party service providers such as Smart Agent. If you download software that is not provided through Nextel, however, you have no such guarantee of privacy. This issue, aside from dollar signs, is what has kept GPS functionality largely an in-house development of the cell phone companies.

Cell Phones Cause Cancer Myth Busted
Cell phone users can sleep a little better tonight, your not going to get cancer from your cell phone. A massive Danish study published today in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute debunks the myth that cell phones cause cancer.
The study included a group of 420,095 Danish cell phone users. The study examined the cancer rates of cell phone users that began cell phone use from 1982 to 1995 and follows their cancer rates through 2002. Denmark was an ideal place for this study because they keep a national cancer registry. This is a system that logs and tracks every person who is inflicted with the deadly disease.
In the study, cancer appeared in only 14,249 people in the research group, as apposed to 15,001 cases that appeared in the general population. According to an article in ars technical, “Cell phone users had no higher risk of brain tumors, acoustic neuromas, salivary gland tumors, eye tumors, or leukemias, though the study's authors note that ongoing research is needed to make sure the results hold true for those who have used a cell phone for more than 10 years.”
This is by far the largest most comprehensive piece of evidence to combat the urban legend that cell phones cause cancer.
