The Bridge Mobile Alliance, a group of Asian mobile operators, said Wednesday that Siemens AG has joined as an associate member, bringing to 10 the number of telecommunication equipment makers and other vendors that belong to the group.
The Bridge Mobile Alliance was formed to improve service quality for mobile subscribers when they roam throughout Asia. Telecommunication equipment vendors were invited to join the group to help operators develop ideas for new services that can be offered.
Siemens' participation in the group will help member operators develop new services aimed at corporate users, Bridge said. The group did not offer details of what these new services would include.
The Bridge Mobile Alliance counts eight operators among its members: Taiwan Mobile Co., India's Bharti Tele-Ventures, Globe Telecom of the Philippines, Maxis Telecommunications of Malaysia, Australia's SingTel Optus Pty., Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), PT Telkomsel of Indonesia, and Hong Kong CSL. Together, these eight operators serve a combined 78 million subscribers spread across Asia.
The nine other vendors that belong to the alliance are Qualcomm, Nokia, HP, Gemplus SA, Axalto NV, Motorola, Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson, LogicaCMG Plc, and China's ZTE.
